Champaign Public Library celebrating National Library Week 2017

This week is National Library Week, and Champaign Public Library is doing their part in programming a week full of activities. I’ve adjusted a little bit of this from their website, but here’s what you can check out Tuesday through this weekend.

WE ARE CELEBRATING National Library Week for a week and a day! The Physics Van, a visit by Caldecott Honor winner Peter McCarty, and the return of knitter Stephen West and his wild creations, are just some of the 39 events we have planned for April 8-15. And we’ll have some surprises in store for you when you visit us. (Hint: Free rentals, your chance to win a $25 gift card, and more!)

Current art exhibitions:

• “Transformation Takes Flight” by Adriane Binky Donley, a magical installation of 1,700 hand-painted butterflies soaring above the library lobby. 

• “The Art Connection: Schools to Library,” featuring artwork by 40+ Champaign students from Westview, Bottenfield, and Central High schools. (Be sure to visit both the children’s area on the first floor and the FriendShop Bookstore on the lower level.)

Great Authors at the Library: The one-and-only Terry McMillan (Waiting to Exhale, When Stella Got Her Groove Back, and many other acclaimed books), will talk about her life and about writing on May 4, at 7 p.m., as part of the Great Authors at the Library series. McMillan’s talk will be hosted by the long-running Table Talk Book Club and will take place as a special after-hours event at the main library. Reservations open April 20 at 10 a.m.
