C-U Comedy Moves To Soma Ultralounge
C-U Comedy has been the official home for comedy in Champaign-Urbana for the past 5 years. In that time, we have been recognized three years in a row (2012 – 2014) by “The Best of C-U” as “Best Comedy Venue” for our shows every Wednesday Night at Memphis on Main.
On April 1st, we held our final weekly show at Memphis on Main. Beginning on Wednesday Night April 29th, “The Showcase” moves to Soma Ultralounge. (320 N. Neil Street, downtown Champaign)
The reason for the move is we feel the shows need and deserve a room separate from all the distractions of a bar setting. Memphis on Main was a terrific place for over 5 years, helping us grow what was a nonexistent scene into one of the most popular weekly live entertainment shows in all of downtown Champaign. However, what we have in mind moving forward requires a new atmosphere.
We are excited about the new environment. The private back room offers us:
Screens above the stage for videos, comedy shorts, intros, and sponsorship logos.
A full-service bar in a separate room so table talk can be avoided.
An upstairs green room for our performers.
A spacious yet limited seating arrangement that personalizes the shows.
All of this adding up to a genuine comedy club environment every Wed Night!
What remains the same on the shows will be the 8pm start time, no cover, $2 Well Drinks, and the dedication to bringing downtown Champaign fun weekly stand up comedy shows with local and out of town performers. C-U Comedy is going to continue to grow as we try to make Champaign the absolute best independent stand up comedy scene in the Midwest.
