Chaundra Bishop is running for Urbana City Council, in the Ward 5 seat being vacated by Dennis Roberts. Municipal elections are in April 2021.
Democrat Bishop ran for Champaign County Coroner, but was defeated by Republican incumbent Duane Northrup in a very tight race. Bishop is a public health educator, and is running on an inclusive public heath platform. From her annoucement:
Racism is a public health issue. Poverty is a public health issue. Police brutality is a public health issue. Affordable housing is a public health issue. There is so much more that we could be doing better as a community and I remain committed to making things better.
I’m really disappointed that Champaign County couldn’t come through to elect her to the position of coroner, but I’m excited to see her name on the ballot again. Bishop clearly has a lot to offer our community, and I hope voters agree.
