Community Resource Center for refugees and immigrants opens tomorrow

Beginning tomorrow, the University YMCA will be home to a new Community Resource Center for refugees and immigrants who are settling in the Champaign-Urbana area. Three Spinners, a local organization dedicated to supporting these newcomers to our community, has been fundraising and collecting items for the center and is now ready to open its doors. Here are the details:

THREE SPINNERS ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING OF COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER AT UNIVERSITY YMCA

Three Spinners continues to make positive waves in the community through their efforts to support refugees.

Champaign-Urbana IL, June 6, 2017—Now more than ever, refugees and migrants face an uncertain future in the United States.

Three Spinners, a local non-profit organization, works to establish Champaign-Urbana as a visible community that can support refugee families and individuals. The organization hosts events including fundraisers and item drives to further their goal of providing financial support to resettled families as well as essential items for everyday life. Their latest event, a silent auction held at Pizza M in Downtown Urbana in April, successfully generated enough funds to officially launch a Community Resource Center. With doors opening on June 7th, 2017, the Community Resource Center will provide clothes, furniture, and household items free of charge to refugees and immigrants struggling in the community.  They also provide one-on-one and small group language conversation hours, computer and software training, interview coaching, and résumé preparation.  Anyone who has items to donate or is interested in volunteering with the Resource Center can contact us directly at the email address or telephone number provided below.

Thus far, an overwhelming number of C-U residents have donated clothing, household items, and funds to help offset the cost of daily living expenses for new arrivals.  The generosity of the C-U community has made a brick and mortar location possible and the Three Spinners team would like to express their sincerest gratitude for each and every person who has contributed to this effort.
