Smile Politely is a community magazine, and as such, we rely on a people from our community to contribute. We are always welcoming new writers, photographers, and videographers into the fold, across all sections. Whether you’re into the music scene, have a passion for the theater, want to dig in to local politics, or maybe have some sort of niche idea we haven’t thought of yet, we’d love to add your voice to the mix.

We’re looking for writers who have the ability to compose clear, concise, and interesting hyper-local pieces that will grab the attention of our readership. Are you more of a visual media sort of person? We also need folks who can take some quality photos for photo essays, and to accompany articles, as well as videographers to help us expand our content in that area.

At Smile Politely we uphold progressive values of inclusivity and anti-racism. We want to center the voices and stories of people and communities in C-U that have been excluded. To that end, we invite contributors from historically excluded groups.

If you are interested, please email us at [email protected] with the following information:

  • A query letter telling us who you are, and what sort of work you’ve done related to writing, photography, or videography
  • A few content ideas that you have, or areas of interest, so we can determine which section(s) would be the best fit.
  • Examples of previous work
