Driven to Reach Excellence & Academic Achievement for Males has been providing opportunities for Black boys and young men in C-U for several years now, including through a new health and wellness program that was launched last year. This weekend there will be a Soccer Fest at Garden Hills Academy to celebrate that program, and officially launch their new initiative — Hope for the Future. This initiative is “a community collaborative model for proactive violence prevention and systemic change. It addresses inequities in the academic, physical, mental, and social health of kids who might be derailed by violence and trauma, as well as their families.” The program will have multiple tiers of service, from community based and culturally enriching family programming, to gang prevention, to intensive wrap around services.
At Soccer Fest, on May 7th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., DREAAM athletes will play in a tournament, while families watch and also enjoy free hot dogs and snow cones. There will also be a bounce house.
