Yesterday, unsurprisingly, Governor Pritzker extended the stay-at-home order until April 30th. That means schools will also remain closed through that date. Here is the note that went out to Unit 4 families:
Dear Unit 4 Staff and Families:
On March 31, the Governor of Illinois extended the stay-at-home order through April 30. This means schools will remain closed through April 30. We know this news brings a lot of emotions and disappointment for our students, staff and families across the District.
District Administrators, teachers and staff have collaborated to provide remote learning during the closure. Building principals and teachers will continue communicating with families about how their building is implementing those plans.
In order to help all families with access to remote learning, the District is in the process of distributing Chromebooks to families who do not have a device at home. High school and middle school students should have already been contacted regarding chromebook distribution. Elementary level chromebook distribution is Tuesday, April 7. Students who will receive a Chromebook in this first phase will be contacted by their school.
We understand even with a device, there may be other barriers to online learning. The District is working to ensure families without access to technology have opportunities for remote learning as well.
Food distribution will continue for those 18 and under.
- Drive thru distribution sites will be MONDAYS ONLY at Booker T. Washington, Garden Hills Academy and Jefferson Middle School from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
- Home delivery will be on Fridays ONLY. You will be contacted the day before with delivery instructions.
If you have questions specific to your child, please reach out to your building principal. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility during a time when things are continually changing.
Schools of Choice registration will be extended; there will be details about that soon.
