Feed the Thing and City of Champaign participating in recycling events for Move In/Move Out days

There are a number of events happening in the next few weeks as renters begin to change residences. Feed the Thing and the City of Champaign will be providing the means to recycle items such as cardboard, plastic, glass, paper boxes, cans, magazines, and newspapers. The goal is to reduce waste and drive some donations towards local non-profits.

The first events take place this weekend, and then over the course of the next few weeks movers will have a chance to recycle at designated times and places. The details are be listed below:

The dates scheduled for drop off are:

Friday, August 7, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The location of the event:

512 S. Third Street (sponsored by Campus Property Management)

Cardboard Dumpster Event:

As the fall semester begins at the University of Illinois, the City of Champaign is holding a Cardboard Dumpster Event for Feed the Thing During Move In/Out from August 14-25, 2015.  Cardboard dumpsters will be placed around the campus town area with the purpose of providing students living in multifamily buildings (apartments, condos, & co-ops with five or more units), fraternities, sororities, and other shared housing the opportunity to properly dispose of cardboard that does not fit into their ‘Feed the Thing’ carts.  This helps reduce the amount of materials entering the waste stream.

Participants in the Feed the Thing recycling program can drop off their cardboard to any of these locations on the following days:

August 14-22
400 E. Chalmers between Fourth and Fifth Streets

August 14-24
500 S. Third between Springfield Avenue and Healey Street

August 20-25
600 E. Clark between Sixth and Wright Streets
100 E. Chalmers between First and Second Streets
300 E. Chalmers between Third and Fourth Streets
800 S. First between John and Daniel Streets

Champaign residents not in the multifamily recycling program have curbside recycling collection available to them through their solid waste hauler as part of their basic service. Residents should contact their solid waste hauler directly for more information.
