Frank Oz will be a featured guest at Ebertfest

Ebertfest is coming back to the Virginia Theatre April 19-22, and now some of the films and special guests have been announced.

Oz, well known as the voice of Yoda and many Muppet characters, as well as the director of Little Shop of Horrors, What About Bob?, and The Stepford Wives, will be there for the screening of Derek DelGaudio’s In & Of Itself. Derek DelGaudio and Janet Pierson, director emeritus of SXSW Film Festival will be there as well.

Other announced films include:

  • Marian Anderson: The Whole World in Her Hands (2022) with Director Rita Coburn, producer Brenda Robinson, and performance by Viveca Richards, an opera soprano from the University of Illinois Lyric Theatre
  • Wings of Desire (1987) with Michael Barker, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics
  • Nine Days (2020)
  • Tokyo Story (1953)
  • The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) featuring live music from Anvil Orchestra

The theme of this year’s festival is “Empathy at the Movies”, and it’s honoring the 10th anniversary of Roger Ebert’s passing. You can read more about the films at the College of Media website. Passes are available now on the Virginia Theatre website, and individual tickets will go on sale April 3rd.
