After reading in the most recent Weekender that Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch was temporarily opening to show off their cute new baby reindeer, I decided it was probably finally time to head to Rantoul to check out the ranch. Despite the hot weather, it definitely feels like Christmas once you arrive. The general store is filled with holiday decorations for purchase, and even though they were shedding their coats, the reindeer still felt like winter. There is a play area for the kids, two adorable bunnies in a large cage for you to feed, and the owners’ dog came out to show off some tricks.
The main draw this time of year is, of course, the baby reindeer. This year there are two: one is one month old, and the other was only four days old this past weekend. Guided tours are available for you to feed and pet the reindeer, as well as partake in the “reindeer kiss.”
This upcoming weekend is your last chance to see them before the ranch closes again until the fall.
