Last week we told you that the second annual 217 Black Restaurant Weekend will take place June 18-20.

Buy Black Chambana announces 217 Black Restaurant Weekend in honor of Juneteenth
Champaign County — Buy Black Chambana is back for the inaugural Black Restaurant weekend (June 18th-20th), and we are speaking greatness into existence! Last year, at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, we had countless people participate. We had such a great turnout that Rumberger’s ran out of chicken wings! This year we want to do it bigger and better and we are going to need your help.
Black Restaurant Weekend is designed to promote economic diversity in Champaign County. We are not asking people to support these businesses simply because they are Black-owned. We announce they are Black owned to honor and celebrate them because even through systemic oppression and racism they have beaten the odds. We congratulate their work ethic and we acknowledge their struggle. There are so many amazing businesses in our online directory that have not received the media attention they deserve. This is an opportunity for the community to support and bolster our Black-owned businesses that have some of the most bragged about menus and truly engaging atmospheres.
This is a way to support Black owned businesses for one weekend but long term we are calling for individuals and businesses to make the pledge to be intentional about where they spend money, check the directory to see if there’s a Black owned business that can provide what you need, and put their money where their heart is. We celebrate Black-owned restaurants, togetherness, and champion inclusion.
How to participate:
1. Visit one of the Black owned restaurants listed below.
2. Order your favorite food (or try something new!)
3. Document your experience and share it on your social media
4. Don’t forget to tag the restaurant and Buy Black Chambana to enter into our RAFFLE GIVEAWAYSFOOD TRUCKS
