I tried the new taco truck Guerrero Azteca

The taco truck Guerrero Azteca opened in January and regularly parks in the Piccadilly lot on W John Street in Champaign. Yesterday, I checked out the new food truck and ordered three tacos ($9): chicken, steak, and pork. Served on double corn tortillas with cilantro and onions, the tacos were good. The chicken and pork were a little dry, but the steak was flavorful with a delicious char. The salsas were great especially the spicy red one on the chicken and pork.

I went for the tacos, but when I saw huaraches on the menu, I had to order one — and I’m so glad I did because it was really delicious.

This steak huarache ($13) had a handmade tortilla with chopped steak, melted cheese, sour cream, onions, cilantro, lettuce, tomato, and pineapple. The tortilla was soft yet sturdy; it did not break under the weight of all the ingredients. Cheese melted into the tortilla like a quesadilla, and I liked the edges where it was slightly crisped. The toppings were fresh, and the steak tasted amazing — definitely my favorite of all three protein options.

I also tried the truck’s horchata ($2), which was a great dessert drink: creamy and full of sweet cinnamon flavor.

Guerrero Azteca’s steak huarache is a must try, but the taco truck also offers nachos, burritos, tortas, and tamales in addition to tacos and huaraches. When I visited, there was no line, and my order was ready quickly.
