Whoops.
I recently had lunch with a friend at La Mixteca, and we hadn’t seen each other in a while, we were busy chatting and catching up when our server came to take our orders. I hadn’t really considered the menu (because I’ve always enjoyed my meals there), but I remembered seeing a photo on their social media feed of a large-ish fried-shell taco:
So I said I wanted that taco I saw on their socials, with chicken, and that was that.
Well, when it arrived, my friend, the server, and I all had a good laugh. It was huge. As the server put the plate on the table, he said, “Good luck!”
(In my defense, I only saw La Mixteca’s photo in passing and there was no good indication of the full scale of the thing. On the other hand, we here at Smile Politely have posted about this taco before, and I clearly forgot.)

Joke’s on no one because it was really delicious! There were French fries in the taco, as well as lettuce, and tomatoes, chicken, cheese, sour cream, and guac. The French fries were awesome, and a nod to San Diego’s California burritos.
I didn’t finish the taco at lunch, but brought the leftovers home and had them for dinner (warmed in the oven).
I regret nothing about this choice, and encourage you to treat yourself (or maybe yourself and a loved one) to one of these enormous tacos ($14).
