Shoutout to Hopscotch Bakery + Market for posting about the ice cream chain in their Instagram stories over the weekend. Before yesterday, I had spent approximately zero minutes in Decatur. But all of that has changed.
Driving 45 minutes for soft serve ice cream seems unreasonable, right? Not when you’re coming out of 18 months of a global pandemic that led to zero day trips and zero travel plans.
I drove out there yesterday and had the weekend special, a banana cream pie concoction that was absolutely delicious ($6). Mister Softee is located at Nelson Park, which seems to be quite nice, and adjacent to mini golf and a water park and other family “adventure” stuff. I grabbed my frozen treat and drove the short distance to Lake Decatur and sat and watched boats and geese and enjoyed my banana cream pie ice cream cream swirl thingie.
If you’re looking for stuff to do, consider an outing to Decatur for some soft serve and mini golf.
