I want to eat at BakeLab everyday

Have you been to BakeLab? It’s fantastic. I stopped by last week and picked up a few things: a strawberry mascarpone croissant, an orange macadamia danish, and a hot dog croissant ($5.95 each). Eclectic, I know.

Clockwise, left to right: strawberry mascarpone croissant, an orange macadamia danish, and a hot dog croissant from BakeLab in Urbana. These three pastries are in a white takeout box. Photo by Jessica Hammie. Photo by Jessica Hammie.

When I ordered, the person behind the counter said that the strawberry mascarpone croissant is their most popular item. After eating it (scarfing it down in my car), I see why. It’s damn delicious. That strawberry jam? Ermahgerd! The orange macadamia danish? Chef’s kiss. And the hot dog croissant? Probably the most sophisticated pig in a blanket I’ve had. (I did take it home and heat it up in the oven; I do have some standards.)

I know BakeLab can seem inaccessible, especially with the ever-evolving and rotating construction on Lincoln Avenue, but there is parking in the back. Just park, run in, grab your pastry, and retreat to a place to eat those yummy things as ungracefully as possible. You can even order online
