After tomorrow, Champaign will be less delicious because small Japanese bakery Kaori’s Oven is closing. Owner Kaori Ishibashi shared on Instagram that the bakery will be closed until further notice after Thursday’s hours, so the baker can spend more time with her young children.

I’ve liked the baked goods by Kaori’s Oven ever since my first bite in 2021. Though the bakery makes savory items as well, I am in love with the bakery’s adorable animal sweets. The panda sweet with a cream cheese filling made it into my Desserts you need to eat list, and the turtle sweets have been an ongoing obsession.

Kaori’s Oven will still make cake on the weekends for ISHI, the omakase sushi restaurant run by the baker’s husband Chef Ken Ishibashi. Catch the last two official days of Kaori’s Oven today and tomorrow before the bakery closes for an undetermined amount of time.
