Meet the muralists at Gallery Art Bar

Four portions of colorful murals represent four Black faces in bright blues, multi-colored images, and one black and white photographic image of an eye in glasses.

I’m looking forward to this one — a chance to meet the muralists contracted to work on murals for the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail. A call for artists went out and over 90 artists responded. We get to meet and greet with the four nationally-recognized artists who will do this important work.

Rob “ProBlak” Gibbs (Boston, MA) is creating a mural based on the theme of “African American Educational Excellence” at 1401 E. Main St. in Urbana (the Urbana Neighborhood Connections Center).

Oscar Joyo (Chicago, IL) is creating a mural based on the theme of “Timeline” at 1801 W. John St. in Champaign.

Jeremy Biggers (Dallas, TX) is creating a mural based on the theme of “African American Firsts and Barrier Breakers” at 212 E. White St. in Champaign.

Georgie Nakima (Charlotte, NC) is creating a mural based on the theme of “the Power of Black Women” at 511 E. White St. in Champaign.
