Mike Ingram is running for County Recorder to eliminate the position

Champaign County Board member Mike Ingram just announced that he plans to run for County Recorder in 2020 with the intention of using his one and only term to fold the position into the County Clerk’s office. According to his press release, over 75% of counties in Illinois do not have a recorder, with several counties recently eliminating the position. Here’s what Ingram has to say about it:

“I believe every elected official has an obligation to be the best steward of taxpayer money they possibly can. It was quickly obvious to me that, at a time when several long-deferred county projects and purchases are coming due, and when county employees are expected by some to shoulder more of their health care coverage costs, that having a separate recorder’s office is an irresponsible use of taxpayer money. And so I am running for recorder with the commitment to consolidate the office into the county clerk’s office within my first and only term as recorder.

Champaign County board members and their constituents have major financial decisions ahead of them. Running for this office and consolidating it allows me the opportunity to provide the county with a little more financial flexibility; and, as both a custodian of taxpayer money and a taxpayer myself, I will rest easier having advocated for a sound financial decision.”
