Illinois Public Media continues its series that focus on gun violence in the community, and how families and individuals are grappling with it, with a discussion of parenting Black children and teens. The event is free and open to the public, and will take place at Pour Bros. beginning at 6 p.m.

According to the event page, covered topics include:

  • Old school” vs. “new school” parenting styles;
  • Exploring how you were brought up vs. how you parent your children;
  • Having “The Talk” regarding policing, race, and racism;
  • Addressing your child’s cultural identity and self-esteem in predominantly white spaces;
  • And navigating the challenges of social media with today’s peer pressures.

There will be several panelists, including parents as well as experts, and there will be performances from spoken word artist Missy Richland as well as Ryan Byfield & Nuclei Trio Band.
