Next Level Hair Parlor, a hair salon and barbershop, has opened in the space formerly occupied by Rogue Barbershop, a hateful place that required its “members” to sign waivers saying they didn’t support Antifa or Black Lives Matter.
Next Level is a salon for everyone — men, women, Black, white, non-conforming. Per the salon’s Facebook page: “We don’t want someone running around Champaign for a White barbershop or a Black barbershop. At the end of the day, just come here. We got you.” That’s the kind of business we need to be supporting in Champaign and Urbana.
Owners Alven Allison, Ajza Allison, and Isis Griffin join the small but growing group of Black business owners in Downtown Champaign (and C-U, more broadly). Allison also owns CBPB, the popcorn shop on Neil and Kirby.
