Smile Politely

On your next trip to Allerton Park, stop by Brown Bag for pie by Inge

If you’re headed out to or from the Monticello area, I suggest stopping by Brown Bag / Pies by Inge for some pie. I recently picked up a few slices to share with my spouse: lime cream, butterscotch meringue, apple streusel, and cherry rhubarb ($4.50 each).

Of the four, my favorites were the lime cream and the butterscotch meringue — and my spouse agreed with me about the butterscotch. The lime was light and creamy and hit the right notes between tangy and sweet. It was a nice change of pace from a heavy, often cloying lemon or lime curd pie. The butterscotch was also well balanced and the texture was perfect. The other two fruit slices were great; it’s really just a matter of personal preference. There are tons of pie flavors, so you’re sure to find something you like.
