Parable Path C-U continues into 2022

Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and several area libraries have partnered for an academic-year-long program organized around Octavia Butler’s novel Parable of the Sower. From the website:

Parable Path CU community events and activities will take place through the spring of 2022 and will explore the themes and story of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower. Published in 1993 with a setting that begins in 2024, Parable of the Sower is a dystopian science fiction novel centered around the physical and spiritual journey of African American teenager Lauren Oya Olamina, searching for freedom as she navigates an unstable society devastated by climate change, social inequality, drugs, disease, and greed.

Right now you can check out Future Spaces in Community Places at the University YMCA and read the novel to participate in discussions (find the calendar for those here).

Champaign Public Library is hosting a Foraging for Fun Zoom workshop today, November 16th.

The culminating event is the opera version of Parable of the Sower, February 25-26, 2022.

I also suggest the graphic novel version of the book, penned by C-U’s Damian Duffy and illustrated by University of Illinois alum and former professor John Jennings.

Additional information, including all of the dates, times, and locations of forthcoming programs are available on the Parable Path C-U website
