Some more good news out of Parkland College today – it was announced that President Thomas Ramage will receive the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA)’s Advocacy Award for 2017.

Parkland College President to Receive ICCTA Advocacy Award
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Illinois Community College Trustees Association has selected Parkland College President Thomas Ramage to receive its 2017 Advocacy Award.
The ICCTA Executive Committee created this special award in 2006 to honor its recipient’s dedicated leadership in advocating for the needs of students and the Illinois community college system.
Ramage will be recognized with the award at the annual ICCTA Awards Banquet June 2 at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Normal. ICCTA Executive Director Mike Monaghan explained the association’s selection of Ramage for this award.
“This year, Dr. Ramage has served a dual role as chair of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents,” Monaghan said. “During one of the most frustrating and chaotic legislative sessions in Illinois history, he has guided the Presidents Council with a steady hand and tremendous patience. He has helped set the agenda for systemwide discussions on fiscal austerity, local control and college readiness.
“Dr. Ramage has also proven to be an articulate champion of expanding access to nursing education. Under his leadership, the Presidents Council has pursued legislation to allow Illinois community colleges to grant bachelor of science degrees in nursing. This initiative has led to coalition-building with hospitals and healthcare providers across the state. Dr. Ramage has kept us informed, reached out to allies and adversaries, and constantly reminded us of why we are part of the community college movement.”
