Public tea ceremonies return to Japan House this month

Tea ceremonies are wonderful way to learn about the history of Japan House, and experience “Chado”, or the way of tea.

After a long hiatus, the public can now reserve tickets for Wednesday evening tea ceremonies; the first one is happening March 16th at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for students and Tomonokai members, and $15 for the general public. A few important things to know:

  • Ceremonies are limited to 15 people and reservations are required
  • Masks are required except when tasting tea or sweets
  • You will need to remove your shoes or wear shoe covers, and you should wear white socks
  • You are asked to have your legs covered, staying in line with Japanese tradition
  • There is kneeling and standing involved, but if needed you can be accomodated with a chair
