United Way of Champaign County has been creating and distributing kindergarten readiness calendars (formerly titled the Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar) for nearly 20 years, giving families and caregivers a multitude of suggestions for ways to prepare three, four, and five year olds for school.
From nutrition, to book recommendations, to social-emotional preparations, as well as suggestions for fun, free, engaging activities for kids and their grown-ups to do together.
Now called Read. Talk. Play. Every Day! calendars, they are part of a bigger year-round early childhood initiative to ensure area families and caregivers have all of the resources they need for their young charges.
The calendars can be downloaded for free from the United Way website in English, Spanish, or French. There are also limited printed copies available through local libraries and childcare providers.
