On May 17th, Illinois Humanities will recognize leaders who “exemplify the humanities in action across the state” with Public Humanities Awards. One of those will go to Rebecca Ginsburg, Director of the Education Justice Project at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Co-Founder of the Illinois Coalition for Higher Education in Prison.

Ginsburg developed the Education Justice Project in 2006, offering higher education opportunities to men incarcerated at Danville Correctional Center. Recently, she was part of a task force that created recommendations for Governor Pritzker at the Illinois General Assembly to improve higher education in prison in Illinois through legislative support.
