Sign up to be an election judge this year

It’s 2022, and that means we are facing a midterm election, and will be a doozy. Redistricting means all state and county offices that represent a district will be on the ballot. We will be electing a U.S. Senator, U.S Representatives, Governor and Lieutenant Governor, State Senators and Representatives, all County Board positions, as well as a host of other county and state offices.

The primary will be held on June 28th — a change that was made for 2022 because of the delay in the Census. Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons has already opened the sign up for election judges. Here are the qualifications:

  • Ability to use a computer and internet accurately
  • Successfully complete an election judge training course conducted by the Clerk’s office
  • Be a citizen of the United States and entitled to vote at the next election or a high school student serving as an election judge
  • Be of good and repute character and not subject to the registration requirement of the Sex Offender Registration Act
  • Able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Not be a candidate for any office at the election and not be elected precinct committeemen
  • Reside in Champaign County

If it’s something your life will allow you to do, this seems like a pretty solid action to take today, as we reflect on the events of January 6, 2021.
