The 2024 installment of C-U Pride Fest is coming up September 15-22, hosting a wide variety of programming throughout the week. On Monday, September 16th at Spurlock Museum, this event will be taking place “Drag-vocacy: Boots on the Ground!”, an educational opportunity for those interested in learning more about how to best support the LGBTQ+ community. From 6 to 9 p.m. in the Knight Auditorium, you can learn more about how to best organize directly from drag performers, which is pretty fun indeed.

Here’s the description of the event from Spurlock’s website:

Planned Parenthood of Illinois Action and Uniting Pride team up to deliver a night of education and information, but with a fun twist! Learn about the state of the political landscape for the LGBTQ+ community here in our area and beyond. But also learn how to engage in political action like relational organizing, phone banking, door to door engagement, and more—but from drag performers! Yep, you read that right—FROM DRAG PERFORMERS! The night will cap off with some light refreshments and performances by our local drag stars. You don’t want to miss this night of learning and levity all in one! RSVP requested.

We’re excited to welcome the following folks to join us for this program:

  • Herra Winn, drag performer.
  • Buck Sallday, drag performer.
  • Ed Yohnka, Director of Communications and Public Policy, ACLU of Illinois.
  • Katie Stanczykiewicz, Director of Government Relations, Planned Parenthood of Illinois.
  • Kyrstin Schuette, Exec.

RSVP to reserve your spot if you’re interested in attending, and check out this highlight reel from last year’s Pride Fest below.
