Spring is the perfect time to take a hike on the Rayburn-Purnell Woods Trail in Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet. Champaign County Forest Preserve District has a self-guided Wildflower Walk that wil help you identify the various blooms you’ll find along the way.
The ephemeral (temporary) blooms will pop at different points in the spring and early summer. Look for signs along the trail for information about each species. All of the wildflowers you’ll find are native to Illinois.
