The city is trying to encourage the 43 registered neighborhood groups in Champaign to become more active with a three-pronged campaign. From their newsletter, The Champaign Insider:

Each of the City’s 43 registered groups are asked to hold an in-person meeting with their neighbors; hold a neighborhood cleanup, beautification, or environmental education event; and host a neighborhood-based community building or block party social event.

Registered neighborhood groups are formed when a group of community members living within a similar geographical boundary organize and fill out a form to register themselves with the city. Being recognized as an “official” neighborhood group allows them to apply for small grants, and have the city help with mailings and provide technical assistance.

The engagement campaign is called 43:43:43, and is intended to encourage reconnection and revitilization after the pandemic.
