All 22 students in the Centennial High School AVID Cohort have a post-high school graduation plan and a 100% college acceptance rate. And for the first time in Unit 4 AVID history, a current senior, Gonecha Djamba, was admitted to an Ivy League university – Cornell University. “AVID is a nationwide program whose mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness in a global society.” These students enter the program in sixth grade and must take Advanced Placement, world language and dual credit courses, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and many serve in leadership positions and achieve accolades through sports or other extra curricular activities. What a testament to the incredibly hard work of these students and the support of an amazing organization. They’ll be marking their success with a Decision Day celebration later today.
