The 8th Annual Feminist Film Festival is happening May 4th

This Thursday, the Art Theater will be screening the 8th Annual Feminist Film Festival, sponsored by Women’s Resource Center. The festival features several 5-15 minute short films created by University of Illinois students, and aims to raise awareness of social issues through the work of underrepresented artists and filmmakers. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the films begin at 7:00. Admission is free, which is pretty awesome, and seating is first come first served. So you may want to get there early. CHAMPAIGN, IL — The Annual Feminist Film Festival at the University of Illinois is a student film festival and a grassroots event that utilizes art and alternative media to bring social issues into the fore. The goal of the festival is to showcase independent film spanning documentary, narrative, and experimental genres in order to explore perspectives often missing from mainstream media and culture. Now in its 8th year, the festival strives to serve as an inclusive public space for underrepresented artists and filmmakers-particularly women and people of color-to raise consciousness concerning issues related to gender, race, class, sexuality, and other dimensions of social inequality. All films are between 5 and 15 minutes in length. Doors open at 7:15pm. A red carpet walk will begin at 7pm outdoors. Come get your picture taken in your finest on the red carpet!
The University of Illinois Feminist Film Festival is organized and hosted by the University of Illinois Women’s Resources Center, in collaboration with variety of campus units and departments with support from the Art Theater Co-Op and Shatterglass Studios.
