The Dark History and Horror Convention and Screaming Mad Film Festival is happening in August

This year’s Dark History and Horror Convention is happening at the I-Hotel on August 19th and 20th, and will include an indie film festival. The annual event weaves horror pop culture with true crime throughout history, and brings in panelists, authors, podcasters, and more.

My interest was piqued by a couple of the celebrity guests that will be attending. Those of us who came of age in the nineties are well acquainted with twin actors Jeremy and Jason London. Jeremy appeared alongside Shannon Doherty, Jason Lee, and Ben Affleck in Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, and was Neve Campbell’s bad boy boyfriend in Party of Five. Jason was Reese Witherspoon’s crush in Man in the Moon and of course, Randall “Pink” Floyd in Dazed and Confused. The brothers have each appeared in horror movies: The Babysitter and The Rage: Carrie II, respectively, which is what brings them to the convention.

HOWEVER. There will be special screenings of Mallrats and Dazed and Confused with Jeremy and Jason there for Q&A sessions after their movies. This is very exciting and I already have tickets for both. You can get yours here.

Another 90s throwback, Edward Furlong of Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Pet Semetary 2 will be at the convention as well. Other fun guests include great-grandnephew of Bram Stoker, Dacre Stoker and John Wayne Gacy’s defense attorney’s son, Bob Motta.

You can shop over 80 vendors, and even get a tattoo. Get convention tickets in advance, and see all that it has to offer, at the convention website.

The convention started in 2014 by Mahoment native Brian L. Ward. You can read a bit about its origins in our interview with Ward from 2017.
