Smile Politely

This week in late night

It seems that we might never shake bad country music from the late-night stage. With Toby Keith, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts performing at least once every night this week, you might consider catching up on some sleep this week. But first, consider this: Grizzly Bear, the Flaming Lips, Hockey, Phoenix, and Keane. And those are just the musical acts. It’s a good thing you’ve got Smile Politely to make sure you’re not losing sleep over bad TV. Here’s this week’s schedule, insomniacs:

Monday: You’ll want to keep it tuned to NBC for The Tonight Show. Conan hosts Jamie Foxx and Jason Alexander, with Grizzly Bear providing the tunes (NBC, 10:35 p.m.).

Tuesday: The Jay Leno Show features funnyman John C. Reilly and Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (NBC, 9 p.m.). If you’re still up, the Flaming Lips (right) perform on The Tonight Show. If we’re lucky they’ll be accompanied by naked bicyclists on stage.

Wednesday: You can catch the always funny Tina Fey on the Late Show with David Letterman (CBS, 10:35 p.m.), Monty Python on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35 p.m.) and Phoenix performs on Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC, 12:35 a.m.).

Thursday: Seems to be the slow day for late-night. But, Hockey performs on Jimmy Fallon while Carson Daly hosts Keane.

Friday: Not too much going on Friday either, but if you stay in, Senator John McCain is on the Jay Leno show and Jimmy Kimmel hosts Dr. Drew Pinsky (ABC, 11:05 p.m.).

Next week looks to be a bye week for some of the late-night hosts, but some big names are scheduled, including Robin Williams and Michelle Obama.
