Some University of Illinois athletes participated in a Black Lives Matter protest march yesterday, August 31st.
U of I student and student athlete Kendrick Green organized the event; he speaks to the process of organizing the march below:
It was good to see U of I coaches and athletic director Josh Witman participating alongside the athletes.
Yesterday’s march came at the same time Illinois State University athletic director Larry Lyons publicly stated that “all Redbird lives matter.” NCAA athletes at other institutions also participated in marches yesterday, including at the University of Alabama and University of Nebraska.
