United Way of Champaign County is organizing a diaper drive for the Bottom Line Diaper Bank, a crucial provider of diapers for children to organizations throughout Champaign County serving families in need. The diaper drive kicks off on August 18th and runs through the end of the month. You can read all about it on United Way’s website. Plus — and I had no idea about this part — with the help of United Way’s network, they are able to source, repack, and distribute over 12,000 diapers every month. Dang!
Here’s where you can donate:
- Stephens Family YMCA
- Philanthropy Center – U of I Foundation
- Common Ground Food Co-Op
- Starbucks (All 4 locations in the C-U)
- Illini Union (NW Corner of Courtyard)
- 8/24 – Table outside Common Ground
This isn’t the only event they’re working on at the moment, as I recently posted about their desire to expand Dolly Parton’s amazing Imagination Library to help children in need in the area through their Battle of the Paddle event on Tuesday, August 27th.
That’s not all, they have this ongoing campaign called Read, Talk, Play:
Read. Talk. Play. Every Day is your new parenting hub with resources for ages birth to 5! Check out our newly revamped website ReadTalkPlay.org. You’ll find great information on the different developmental stages to look for in your child, a vast array of community resources, and how you can get connected with local parenting support. Little moments can have a BIG impact- especially in a child’s first 5 years. United Way’s Read. Talk. Play Every Day. initiative is helping families find and maximize those little moments. By connecting parents with resources that help with basic needs, families know they have support as they navigate the early years- making it easier for them to focus on connecting with their child. Find a kindergarten readiness plan, schedule a developmental check up, and measure your child’s growth and development through their first five years, all at ReadTalkPlay.org!
