UPTV Wins Hometown Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media

UPTV has won a handful of awards in 2015 and this week they’re taking home the Home Town Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media for their work with WPGU’s Illini Drive.

From the release:

The City of Urbana is pleased to announce that Urbana Public Television will receive a Hometown Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media.  The Hometown Media Awards recognize the best community access television programs in the country.

UPTV partnered with local radio station WPGU 107.1 FM to provide video coverage of its popular sports talk show  Illini Drive.  University of Illinois students serve as hosts and producers of the program and UPTV public access member Jacob Bernard operates the two-camera set up and handles all post-production activities.  Illini Drive won in the student category for Best Radio Programming.

“This is another great success story of collaboration in our community,” commented Production Coordinator, Jason Liggett.  “These types of partnerships help UPTV reach out to the community in a variety of different ways.”   UPTV Station Manager Jake Schumacher added, “And we’re very happy to see Jacob Bernard’s hard work and skills recognized on a national platform.”

Illini Drive can be heard on WPGU every Monday evening at 6:00PM during the school year.  The footage is then made into a television show that can be viewed Wednesday evenings at 9:00PM on UPTV.

The Alliance for Community Media will be recognizing the program during a ceremony held in Pasadena, California on August 14th.

UPTV is the City of Urbana’s Public, Education and Government access television station.  It is available locally on Comcast channel 6, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and streaming worldwide at their website.
