Back in 2021, Urbana Park District was awarded a $2.5 million grant from the Illinois Park and Recreational Facility Construction Grant Program to help fund a brand new health and wellness center. After further contributions from private donors, the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, City of Urbana ARPA funds, and Champaign County ARPA funds, the park district was able to break ground on the facility, which will be the largest building project they’ve ever undertaken.

The center will be located in Prairie Park, near Preston L. Williams Elementary School, and it will include fitness equipment and group fitness rooms, full basketball courts and an indoor track, an indoor play area, and multi-purpose rooms. It’s set to be completed in late 2024.
