What’s in a Fruit Box from Central Illinois Produce?

I picked up a fruit box from Central Illinois Produce at their latest curbside pickup.

What’s included? Six red apples, six gold apples, one pound of strawberries, a pint of raspberries, a pint of blueberries, a pint of blackberries, a pineapple, three lemons, three limes, two pounds of red grapes on the vine, two avocados, and six oranges.

It was a bit tricky to order: you have to click the order link, use the login information they provide on facebook, add your name and email address in the form (so they can email you an invoice), and select what you’d like to order. They offer fruit boxes ($35), veggie boxes ($25), baked goods from Central Illinois Bakehouse, and dairy products from Kilgus Dairy. A few days after you place your order, they send you an invoice which you pay to confirm your order.

Pickup was simple. You drive to their location at 500 S Glover Avenue in Urbana. When you get there, drive down the gravel drive to the back, turn around in the lot, and join the line of cars. The staff, in masks and gloves, asked for my invoice number. They loaded my order into my trunk, and I was on my way in less than ten minutes.

Central Illinois Produce offers grocery drive-up pickup for C-U customers who place their order in advance. Follow them on facebook for updates on when their next orders are due.
