The C-U Folk and Roots Festival returns to downtown Urbana this weekend, bringing with it an original festival experience. Folk and Roots Fest is an all-arts collective, featuring over 80 different events consisting of music, dances, storytelling, jams, and much more. Most events are all ages, and lots of them are free. A bluegrass kind of Thursday at Canopy consists of The Way Down Wanderers, who enjoyed playing The Accord in August enough to come visit with us again in quick fashion. This will be a girl-powered evening at Clark Bar with a lineup of talented indie-pop ladies. Emily Blue will be celebrating the release of her anticipated first solo album, Another Angry Woman, with which she has raised thousands of dollars for C-U organization R.A.C.E.S. The profits from the album will continue to go to the cause and will be available at the show.

A solid evening of roots-influenced rock and roll fills up Cowboy Monkey this Friday. Crenshaw, an acclaimed singer-songwriter whose hit “Someday, Someway” climbed the charts in the 80’s is joined by alt-country act The Bottle Rockets. If you can’t make it out to Urbana on Friday, you can still grab some folky tunes at the Monkey.
