If you have ever wondered what goes into maintaining cemeteries and the proper procedures for gravestone preservation, then this Saturday is your chance to learn more. The Urbana Free Library is hosting John Heider — a professional gravestone conservator — in the Lewis Auditorium this Saturday, June 23rd, from 10 a.m. to noon. Heider will host a two-part workshop to teach about proper gravestone repair, cleaning, and unveiling. The second part of this free workshop will take place Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th depending on which session you sign up for. Part two is hands on and participants will meet at Roselawn Cemetery located on the University of Illinois’ campus. This is a free event, but registration is required.
