Champaign-Urbana lore holds that back in the good ol’ days, house parties ruled the land. Reports that the beer was also colder and giants walked the earth cannot be confirmed, but it’s clear that house shows aren’t as common as they used to be (although some Urbana punks are doing their part).
So, in the spirit of nostalgia and new beginnings: we invite the fine folks of C-U to Smile Politely Brings Back the House Party on Friday, May 15. It’s going down at Gillian Gabriel and Joel Gillespie’s house (610 W. Hill St., Champaign), and here’s the best part: it’s free.
Starting at 7 p.m., there will be six fantastic local bands, one per hour. Here’s the schedule (please note new schedule – updated 5/11/09):
- 7 p.m. — Jorge and Thee S-words
- 8 p.m. — John Hoeffleur (of The Beauty Shop)
- 9 p.m. — Common Loon
- 10 p.m. — New Ruins
- 11 p.m. — Tractor Kings
- Midnight — Casados
This is Gillian’s birthday party (she did the illustration at left), so come on out and wish her well.
It’s BYOB, so please bring your ID if you want to drink.
