The Recreation Club is a new gallery and tattoo shop in Downtown Champaign

The Recreation Club is an art collective and tattoo shop that, according to their website, exists “to connect with other creative minds and our community. We provide a unique and curated gallery and private tattoo experience for arts and culture enthusiasts by facilitating an inclusive and safe space to host events, and an aesthetic environment for artists to display their work.”

Founded by hairdresser and tattoo artist Carly Benjamin, and muralist and multimedia artist Carlie Upchurch, they will be available as an event space, and as a space to share the work of their in-house artists.

Their grand opening is this weekend, June 18-20, as a part of Boneyard Arts Festival. They will have a pop up market with paintings, photography, ceramics, clothing, prints, and jewelry, and they will be tattooing as well.

This weekend’s hours are 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. They are located at 117 N Market, right behind Fleurish.
