U of I basketball player Leron Black arrested for Aggravated Assault

According to The News-Gazette, Fighting Illini basketball player Leron Black was arrested for Aggravated Assault (a felony charge) last night at The Canopy Club for pulling a knife on a security guard. Black, who was probably the Illini’s most highly-touted recruit in the past five years, is currently injured and was probably going to seek a medical redshirt this season.

Allegedly, Black also yelled:

“I don’t have a strap but I’m not afraid to cut somebody”

Which is perhaps the last thing a Big Ten student-athlete (or any person, for that matter) should ever say out loud.

The hits keep on coming for John Groce’s squad, which currently has a record of 12-14. Black was supposed to be an integral part of the program’s turnaround once he got healthy, but now things may change.

I love being an overly-optimistic Illini fan, don’t get me wrong, but the bad luck of this team is almost laughable at this point. Maybe in ten years we’ll finally be good again. One can hope.
