Japan House is hosting a special event for Valentine’s Day, where couples will be treated to a wagashi-making demonstration, then they’ll learn how to whisk a bowl of matcha tea and serve it to the other person. It begins at 5:30 p.m. on February 14th. From the event description: “Seated across from one another, each couple will face and serve each other special Valentine’s inspired wagashi and a bowl of freshly whisked matcha, using the 4 principles of tea ceremony as defined by the great Japanese tea master Sen Rikyu in the 1500’s: Wa (Harmony), Kei (Respect), Sei (Purity) and Jaku (tranquility).”

This is not just for romantic partners — the “couples” can be friends or family members as well. You’ll have a photo taken together that will be emailed to you, and you will be able to purchase The Art of Wagashi by Kimiko Gunji, as well as matcha to bring home.

There’s only space for 10 couples, so make your reservation soon. It’s $40 per couple ($35 if you are a Tomonokai member).
