It has been awhile since I was at Silvercreek. The last time was pre-pandemic, at one of the restaurant’s epic Sunday brunches (which, sadly, have not returned). Silvercreek is a Downtown Urbana legend with magnificent food, and I am so glad that I returned for a meal this Restaurant Week.
When my friend and I went for lunch yesterday, we were immediately greeted and sat in the dining room right beside the fireplace. Each table had a vase with a fresh rose, and the warm wood and twinkly lights throughout the dining room made the place feel cozy.
The Restaurant Week lunch special at Silvercreek featured several favorite dishes from the regular menu with some extras — and at a lower price.
All of the $14 RW lunches included a soup, a choice of side, and a cookie.
To start, I ordered the tomato soup. Topped with cheese and ribbons of basil, the soup was very thick and pretty good. Obviously, it had a big tomato taste, but unexpectedly, the garnish was creamy bleu cheese crumbles. I’ve had tomato soup with Parm on top, but I really enjoyed the funky flavor of the bleu cheese with the soup’s tomato tang.
My friend had the cream of mushroom soup, which came topped with herbed croutons and mushrooms. She liked the soup and thought it was well seasoned and not too salty.
Then for my main, I ordered the Silvercreek burger with regular fries. The cheeseburger had lettuce, tomato, red onion, and mayo; it was cooked to a perfect medium. I loved how amazing the cheese looked as it melted down the sides of the patty. For a lunch burger, everything about it was big: a thick beef patty, thick pickles, a huge piece of lettuce, a lot of mayo, and a ton of fries. This Silvercreek burger was very yummy and everything I wanted from a restaurant cheeseburger.
My friend had the Trainwreck sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich had smoked ham, turkey breast, bacon, cheddar, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, and avocado aioli on a made-in-house Zorba roll. This was so good, too. I liked the herbs and cheese in the bread, and I loved the airy, croissant-like texture of the bun. The inside had lots of deli meat sliced thin, under slices of cheese sliced thick, and there was some bacon. Not enough in my opinion, but is there ever enough bacon? It was awesome sandwich, and it was kind of fun to say, “I’ll have a trainwreck,” or “The trainwreck was great!”
Included with our Restaurant Week lunch, we each got a cookie: peanut butter and (the very last) chocolate chip cookie. These cookies were huge! I expected a much smaller cookie, but our cookies were the size of bread plates. Served in a paper slip, the cookies were ready to be taken home, but we still had a few nibbles at the table. The peanut butter cookie was so delicious with crunchy, wrinkled ridges and a strong peanut butter flavor. The soft chocolate chip cookie was good and had big chocolate chunks. I liked that it was not incredibly sweet.
All in all, our lunch at Silvercreek was excellent. We left full and happy, and we had a really nice time catching up in the beautiful dining room. It’s probably a good idea to make your way to Silvercreek for a meal any old time, but this Restaurant Week is a great chance to sit down and enjoy Silvercreek’s food at a cheaper price.
