VeoRide bikes – those turquoise electric bikes that are often seen on various street corners – are going to be allowed to operate on the University of Illinois campus for the first time this summer as part a of a new pilot program. In the past, riders of the rental bikes have only been allowed to pedal the bikes on university streets and bike lanes.

Starting Monday, May 22, that will change when the bikes are allowed, with some restrictions in consideration of pedestrian safety, to operate on campus. The pilot program is being launched by the university and Veo and will run through August 7th. A decision about the future usage guidelines for the bikes will be made before the start of the fall semester based on community feedback and ridership data gathered during the program.

The pilot program is part of a university initiative to improve mobility options for students, faculty, and staff. More information can be found on the Bike at Illinois website.
