GEO votes to strike

A source within the Graduate Employees Organization at the University of Illinois reports that an “overwhelming majority” of the GEO membership voted to authorize a strike. The GEO will officially announce their plans at a press conference on Monday.

The GEO is planning to strike beginning November 16, but that schedule is tentative based on what happens in negotiations between the union and the university in the intervening days.

The votes were cast from November 4 to 6 by the general membership of the union.

The Board of Trustees has a scheduled meeting in Springfield on November 12, and the GEO will hold a rally in conjunction with that event.
