Myke and Devin to return; Bruce… not so much

Good news!

I had a nice little chat with Devin Langford after Thursday’s game. At the end I said I hoped to see him next year. “Definitely,” he said.

“I can print that?”

“Yes.”

My previous newsworthy comment from Devin said he wasn’t planning on redshirting this year. But redshirting wasn’t Devin’s decision to make. This time, he’s the one making the call. A moment after my chat with Devin, I had a nyce little chat with Myke Henry. He also says he’ll be back.

There’s a lot to look forward to. Illinois basketball is about to get better. Excitement, the unknown and possibly winning and scoring are on the horizon.

Bruce Weber grabbed Michigan’s Stu Douglass from the handshake line and walked him off the floor. Who knows what they talked about. It was Weber’s best strategic moved since 2005. A bevy of photographers, all waiting to capture the clench-jawed, eyes-burning post-loss Weber photo — which the coach has so reliably supplied since since Dee left — were flummoxed. “He totally knew what he was doing,” said one of the TV guys.

Weber also knew, for “about a month” that Bailey Leonard would be at this game. Weber did not tell Meyers Leonard that his brother, part of the U.S. military contingent long stationed in Afghanistan, would attend the game.

Bruce Weber like to delay, and to allay. It makes sense that he’d withhold crucial information about family in a war zone. He also keeps his underclassmen wondering “will I ever play basketball?”

Take heart, I say. Bruce Weber is done here. Yes lads, you will be allowed on the court now.
