Corner of Main and Vine, Urbana

Occupy C-U is organizing a rally that will include skits, readings, and speakers. This event is one of a series of public events held across the nation on Jan. 20th. The events are all designed to draw attention to the need for a new constitutional amendment to counter the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and confirm that corporations are not people and have no constitutional free speech protections.

Tinker Tailor is a smart movie that will actually challenge you as a viewer. It’s technically sound and well-acted. It’s a slow burning fuse that you’ll watch inch towards its imminent destructive end. Check out the full review here. (JS)

For a Cold Winter’s Night: Colder Lines in Colder Times, 7:00–10:00 p.m.

Indi Go Artist Co-Op
$7 adults / $5 students

This event is a spoken word show featuring some of the best local talent in Champaign-Urbana. All proceeds will go to benefit the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.

Performances will include storytelling and poetry by Benjamin Matheson, Suzy Requarth, Stage Presence, Hal Southern, Jamie Marlow, Benjamin Matheson, and Dan Keding.

This show is not recommended for children under 13. (TN)

MLK Community Celebration at Krannert Center, 10 a.m., Free

Book launch by local author Julie Cross at Champaign Public Library, 2:00–3:00 p.m., Free

Robeson Pavilion Room A & B

Local author Julie Cross is launching the publication of her debut novel, Tempest, at CPL. She’ll discuss the creative process of her teen time-travel plot, and writing while working and raising a family.

Books will be sold before and after the program, and there will be a book signing.
